What Is Famanon?

A fellowship of family members and friends that suffer from consequences of other person's substance abuse, or connected behavioural issues across the world is called Families Anonymous. Fam Anon has groups which meet regularly and spread throughout the country. Anyone, with even a slight suspicion of a substance abuse problem of a close one, is encouraged to come to the gatherings.

Fam Anon was established by a group of families in America in 1971. 1980 marked the formation of the first group in London spearheading creation of 50+ groups with common goal in different parts of the country.


The Fam Anon is a self-sustained organisation which methods are based on the 12 Steps and 12 Traditions programme created by Alcoholics Anonymous.


How Can Fam Anon Assists Members?

The group's goal is to support families and friends of persons with the present, potential or past drug related issues by offering mutual support and a place to share experiences and concerns. This group facilitates our members to figure out that how to grapple with the issues which are disturbing and affecting your lives.

Assistance for the family and friends is a great help for the addict as well and this is proven by practice and experience.

FamAnon is a worldwide organisation of friends and families of the addicts and persons with behavioural issues. Fam Anon was founded by a group of families in Los Angeles in 1971 and it is based on the 12 Steps programme from the Alcoholic Anonymous. In London, the initial group in the UK was founded in 1980 and now there are around 50 groups across the nation.


Main emphasis of Fam Anon program is support of families to adjust and cope with addiction. They help them and bring them back to their lives and live normally.

Families Anonymous works in different ways. Fam Anon group members draw strength from sharing common goals. No fee is required for membership or meetings. Fam Anon doesn't accept or request any money from outside bodies. The whole office and work is financed and supported through our volunteers contributions and offers by Fam Anon writings.


Only first names are used in gatherings, as FamAnon is an anonymous programme.


In the FamAnon meetings, participants learn how to live with the issues that are disturbing their lives.


Attendants at meetings discover the secret of openness and consistency in handling addiction. That often causes them to understand that the addict needs assistance to live a drug-free life.
